Every great innovation begins with a problem that someone refuses to accept. For registered nurse Sarah Waimon, that moment came after being splashed in the face while cleaning a clinical measuring container with a hospital bedpan washer. Like countless healthcare workers, she experienced firsthand the daily risk of exposure to biohazards that had long been accepted as "part of the job."
She believed caregivers deserved better. That simple belief became Looey®. What began as a cardboard prototype evolved into purpose-built medical equipment through the support of Rhode Island's innovation community. Every day healthcare workers are exposed to splash hazards while performing essential patient care tasks. These moments often go unnoticed until an exposure occurs. Looey® was created to reduce those risks by helping contain splash back during the cleaning of clinical measuring containers, giving caregivers greater protection while performing the work patients depend on.
